Great food. Excellent waitress "Carlyle". Initial wait for service to long.
I absolutely love everything about The Anchor Tavern. I’m originally from The Jersey Shore, but now live in far upstate NY. I first dined here in June with my sister. The chicken was to die for and I remember having several sides, but the Mac & Cheese really was classic comfort food. So, of course I’m down for Christmas & I told my sister we had to go again. She agreed and the two of us along with another sister went in for a late lunch. Again, it just blew me away. Best comfort food ever. I had the chicken wrap. Jennifer had the Cuban & Kathy had The Pork Roll, Egg & cheese burger. We all had a bit of all the combined entrees. We went during happy hour and had onion rings with a horseradish sauce for $5.00! Look the atmosphere is great. Our server Leslie was super attentive and so likable. I even bought a zip up hoodie-Love it! Whenever, I’m at the shore you’ll find me at Anchor Tavern. Just go!
I really wanted to like this place so much more than I did. The setting is awesome and the food sounds great, but it just didn't deliver. I was there with a party of 4 and with 2 appetizers and 4 entrees, no one really cared for any of it. My chicken was dry as a bone, my girlfriend's salad was tasteless. The couple we were with got a burger and steak respectively and were very disappointed in both. The wings come sauceless and were thus tasteless also. The best thing was the fried pickles.
Food here is embarrassing for what you pay. Not worth it. I've come here 3 times just to see if it was an off day and I've been disappointed every single time. The atmosphere and service is ok here but that's not enough to keep me coming back.
Food is always good, atmosphere is relatively good. Nice outside section close to a number of other bars. Good wings, ok beer selection, get the half chicken.
